The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your checkers around the Backgammon board and get those pieces from the game board quicker than your opposing player who works harder to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a match of Backgammon requires both tactics and good luck. Just how far you will be able to move your pieces is up to the numbers from tossing the dice, and the way you move your checkers are decided on by your overall playing tactics. Enthusiasts use differing plans in the different stages of a match depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Plan

The aim of the Running Game plan is to lure all your chips into your inner board and pull them off as quickly as you could. This tactic focuses on the speed of moving your chips with no time spent to hit or block your opponent’s pieces. The ideal time to use this technique is when you believe you can move your own chips faster than the opposition does: when 1) you have a fewer pieces on the board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your competitor’s chips; or 3) the opponent does not employ the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Technique

The primary aim of the blocking technique, by its title, is to block your competitor’s checkers, temporarily, while not fretting about moving your chips quickly. Once you have created the blockade for the opponent’s movement with a couple of checkers, you can shift your other pieces quickly from the game board. You should also have a clear strategy when to withdraw and shift the chips that you utilized for blocking. The game gets interesting when your competitor uses the same blocking technique.
